Eisenach: Thuringia and Bach Again

I wonder how many of you will get the Lord of the Rings reference in the blog title. That was my attempt at being witty and creative. This weekend we went to Thuringia Germany to the town of Eisenach. It was a beautiful little town and we enjoyed it. We visited the house of Johann Sebastian Bach and we all loved that experience...even little Tyrus liked listening to the music.

We hope you enjoy our pictures of the week.

Johann Sebastian Bach's childhood home in Eisenach Germany.
Coco hanging out with the Bach statue.
Tyrus doing his JEDI training. Use the force my son.
The tour of the Bach house started with a mini-concert using these antique instruments.
In the Bach house there was a section with these bubble chairs where you could listen to Bach.
 Cosette loved it!

 Tyrus loved it too.
He calmed down right away and just sat there listening to the classical music.
Even I enjoyed some Bach time. It was very relaxing.
Cosette was quick to find the children's corner where she read some books about music.
There was a small theater where a concert was played for us to Bach's music. It was fun.
They used Bach's actual bone measurements to make the Bach bust. It was neat to read about how this was done.
 Cosette exploring music and sound.
Check out this violin. Notice the mouthpiece? That's right it's a mix between a trumpet and a violin. This and other unique instruments were on display there.
Here is a view of the back of the house and the garden area.
Do you spot the movie star? The one and only David Hasselhoff once made a visit to Eisenach too!
Nathan with Cosette and Tyrus exploring the Bach House.
The following are some pictures of Eisenach. If I remember correctly this is the Town Hall.
Here is the market square fountain.
Another building in the town square.
 Charming homes in Eisenach.
Now begin the pictures from Wartburg Castle. This Knight greeted us at the ticket counter.
Here is a picture of the Knights bath.
 The well for the Castle.

Nathan and the kiddies touring the Castle.
This was my favorite room in the whole Castle. I hope the video works for you because it was amazing. The  walls and the ceiling were all covered in mosaic tile. It was called the Ladies Room because it was where the ladies of the castle would gather.
Wartburg Castle was where Martin Luther found refuge to translate the Bible into German. This is the Chapel where he would have been. There is a painting on the wall to the left that is original and the baptismal font is also original as well as the pulpit.
I love the words over this door.
The paintings and murals in this castle were amazing. We all enjoyed looking at the artwork and the tour was great too because it told us about the history of the art and the stories that the art told.
Now that is a door knocker!
The Grand Hall was very beautiful.

There was an art and artifact exhibit there too. Here is a little knight we saw there.
The craftsman ship of the woodwork was astounding.
Walking through the castle. Cosette always keeps her eye out for Princesses.
Here is the room that is said to be where Martin Luther translated the Bible.
Outside the Castle.

Look closely at the doves just below the window.

Here is a short video of the Castle view.

We climbed one of the towers outside the Castle. Tyrus loved it! He was all smiles.
 View from the tower.

 The doors to the Castle.

Here is another video of the view from the Castle grounds.

Don't lock us away. We promise to be good!
Walking back down to the car from the Castle. Still all smiles.
This is a view of Wartsburg Castle from further away.
On our way home we saw another random castle in the mountains. It was a beautiful yellow color and it stood out from the brown trees that surrounded it.
When we stopped to take the picture of the Yellow Castle Nathan took a picture of these little ponies too. We love that Spring is coming and the green grass is starting to cover the once brown and barren ground.

Wow- what amazing pictures. I love seeing and hearing all about your adventures! It's also really amazing to see this progression with Tyrus. I swear he looks less and less like a baby every time you update your blog. I can't believe how red his hair is- just like daddy!
